در شیراز قدیم، اگر درخت نارنجی در فصل بهار محصول نمی‌داد، صاحب درخت همسایگان را خبر می‌کرد و با تبری به‌پای درخت می‌رفت و می‌گفت که تصمیم دارد درخت را قطع کند. اما همسایه‌ها ضامن درخت می‌شدند، یعنی ضمانت می‌کردند که این درخت در سال آینده بار بدهد. بر روی درخت تور سفیدی می‌انداختند و روی آن نقل می‌پاشیدند و دف می‌زدند. آش می‌پختند و به این بهانه جشن می‌گرفتند.

In Shiraz (southern Iran), in old times, if a bitter orange tree (Narenj) didn’t bear fruit in the spring, the owner would inform the neighbors and approach the tree with an axe, declaring his intention to cut it down. But the neighbors would intervene as guarantors for the tree, promising that it would bear fruit the following year. They would cover the tree with a white veil, sprinkle Noghl over it, play the Daf (a traditional frame drum), and cook Ash, turning a moment of concern into a joyful celebration.
