بارمان پسر ویسه بود و ویسه سپهبد پشنگ، شاه توران در زمان پادشاهی نوذر بود. در ابتدای جنگ ایران و توران در زمان فرمانروایی نوذر بارمان جلو آمد و هماورد خواست و قباد، برادر پیر قارن داوطلب مبارزه شد و علیرغم اصرارهای قارن به جنگ بارمان رفت و به دست بارمان کشته شد. بعد از آنکه قباد برادر قارن و پسر کاوهی آهنگر به دست بارمان کشته شد، اوضاع برای ایران و نوذر به حدی بد شد که شاه ایران پسرانش توس و گستهم را به پارس فرستاد تا خانوادهی پادشاهی را به رابهکوه ببرند تا مبادا تورانیان به آنجا برسند. بعد از ادامه پیدا کردن جنگ ایران و توران و افول سپاه ایران قارن و بارمان در مقابل هم قرار گرفتند و بارمان به دست قارن کشته شد ولی از آنطرف نوذر به اسارت افراسیاب درآمد. وقتی افراسیاب نوذر و هزار و دویست نفر از ویژگانش رو گروگان گرفت، دید قارن در آن سپاه نیست پس ویسه را فرستاد تا با قارن روبرو شود. توضیحات تکمیلی: ما در شاهنامه دو بارمان داریم. یکی بارمان ویسه و دیگری بارمانی که در داستان سهراب و داستان دوازدهرخ حضور دارد.
Barman was Viseh's son, and Viseh was Pashang's(Turan's king) warlord during Nowzar's reign. In the beginning of the war between Iran and Turan in Nowzar's era, Barman came forward and asked for a rival. Gharen's older brother, Qobad volunteered for the fight. Despite Gharen's efforts to stop him, he went to fight Barman and got killed by his hand. After Barman's death, things did not go well for the Iranian troops at all. Their situation was so bad that Nowzar ordered his sons(Gostahm and Tous) to go back to Fars and take everyone from the royal seraglio to ZavehKuh, so that the Turan's troops wouldn't get their hands on them. The war continued and Iran's army was in a downfall. Barman and Gharen confronted each other in the battle, and Gharen avenged his brother's death by killing Barman. But on the other hand, Nowzar got captivated by Afrasiab. When Afrasiab captured Nowzar and twelve hundred of his men, he noticed that Gharen wasn't among them; so he sent Viseh to face him. Verse: Gharen fought Barman like a beast Gave him no chance to do the least P.S. There are two characters named Barman in The Book Of Kings. One of them is Barman, Viseh's son, and the other is the one who has a role in Sohrab's story and also in Davāzdah Rokh(twelve combats).
