فرهاد یکی از پهلوانان گمنام شاهنامه در زمان پادشاهی کیکاووس و کیخسرو است.
در داستان جنگ مازندران پس از آنکه کیکاووس به کمک رستم از مازندران گریخت، نامهای به شاه مازندران نوشت و گفت که اگر شاه مازندران تسلیم او نشود ایران به آن سو لشکر میکشد. کسی که نامه را پیش شاه مازندران برد فرهاد بود.
پس از این داستان فرهاد در بسیاری از لشکرکشیهای ایران در کنار دیگر پهلوانان حضور دارد اما نقش چندانی ندارد.
در ابتدای داستان فرود نیز از فرهاد و لشکرش با درفش گاومیشپیکر یاد شده.
* حمدالله مستوفی در کتاب نزهة القلوب خود از شهر اَبَرشهره در غرب دریای خزر یاد کرده و میگوید که «جای نشست فرهاد بن گودرز بوده»
بنا بر این نکته و این مصرع «گزینِ ابرشهر فرهاد راست» شاید بتوان گفت که فرهاد از گودرزیان است.
همچنین آمدن نام فرهاد در کنار گودرزیان در بسیاری از ابیات این احتمال را قویتر میکند.

Farhad is one of the less known champions during the reigns of KayKavūs and Kaykhosrow.
During the Mazandaran War, once Rostam helped KayKavūs to flee from Mazandaran, KayKavūs wrote a letter to the king of Mazandaran, a letter in which he stated that if the king of Mazandaran didn't surrender, he would march towards Mazandaran. Farhad was the one who delivered the letter.
After this story, Farhad participates in many of the wars, and fights for the Iranian army side by side with other champions, but he doesn't play a crucial role.
Also at the beginning of Foroud's story, he and his flag are mentioned.
P.S. According to Hamdallah Mustawfi in the book "Nuzhat al-Qulub", there was a city at the west side of Khazar, called "Abarshahre". He states that this city belonged to Farhad son of Goudarz. Based on this statement, and also according to Shahnameh, we can conclude that Farhad was probably from The House of Goudarz.
