کافور دژدار قلعهی بیداد بود که به دژ آدمخوارها شهرت داشت.
پس از آنکه لشکر خاقان چین از ایرانیان شکست خورد، رستم به سوی سغد آمد و در یک منزلی آنجا خبر از وجود قلعهی بیداد یافت که در آن از گوشت انسان تغذیه میکردند.
رستم گستهم و بیژن را به جنگ با آنان فرستاد اما کافور چون آگاه شد، به جنگ آنها آمد و بسیاری ایرانیان را کشت. گستهم بیژن را مأمور کرد تا رستم را به میدان نبرد فراخواند. رستم آمد و چنان گرزی به سر کافور کوبید که او جا در جا جان داد. دژ نیز، که بسیار مستحکم بود و بهدست تور ساختهشدهبود، به دست ایرانیان افتاد.
