نوشآذر چهارمین پسر اسفندیار بود که در «داستان رستم و اسفندیار» به دست زواره برادر رستم کشته شد.
نوشآذر چهارمین پسر اسفندیار بود که در زمانی که اسفندیار به دستور گشتاسپ در دژ گنبدان دستگیر شدهبود، مسئولیت دیدبانی دژ را بر عهده داشت.
در «داستان هفتخوان اسفندیار» زمانی که اسفندیار به دژ سپید راه یافت و با همکاری پشوتن در دژ با ارجاسپ جنگید، نوشآذر با طرخان، سردار تورانی، نبرد کرد او را از میان برداشت و همین کار چنان ترسی در دل یاران ارجاسپ انداخت که آنها را مجبور به فرار از دژ کرد.
در «داستان رستم و اسفندیار» زمانی که نبرد رخ به رخ آن دو به طول انجامید، زواره با سپاهش به سوی لشکر اسفندیار آمد و به آنها دشنام داد و پدرش را از آنها طلب کرد. نوشآذر رو به زواره گفت که اسفندیار اجازهی جنگ با سگان را به آنها نداده و اگر در جنگ پیشدستی کنند سرانجام بدی در انتظار آنها خواهدبود. همین شد که جنگی میان پسران دو جهانپهلوان در گرفت. نوشآذر ابتدا با الوای، نیزهگزار رستم جنگید و آن را از میان برداشت. سپس زواره به سوی نوشآذر آمد و نیزهای به سینهی او زد و او را کشت.

Noush-Azar, the fourth son of Esfandiyar, met his tragic fate at the hands of Zavare, brother of Rostam, in the legendary tale of Rostam and Esfandiyar. In that fateful hour, as Esfandiyar lay imprisoned in the mighty Gonbadaan Fort under the orders of Goshtasp, it was Noush-Azar who bore the weighty responsibility of guarding the fortress.
In the epic saga of the Seven Trials of Esfandiyar, when the brave Esfandiyar breached the walls of the White Fortress and valiantly clashed with Arjaasp in alliance with Peshotan, Noush-Azar faced the fierce Tarkhan, the commander of Turan. In a display of valor, he dispatched Tarkhan, instilling such dread in the hearts of Arjaasp’s warriors that they were driven to flight from the stronghold.
Yet in the tale of Rostam and Esfandiyar, as the duel between the two champions stretched on, Zavare advanced with his forces, casting curses and demanding the return of his father. Defiant, Noush-Azar stood his ground, informing Zavare that Esfandiyar had forbidden fighting with curs and warned that any arrogance in battle would yield dire consequences. Thus erupted a fierce conflict between the progeny of the world’s greatest champions. Noush-Azar first engaged with Alvaay, Rostam’s valiant spear-bearer, and vanquished him. But, alas, Zavare came upon Noush-Azar next, thrusting his spear into Noush-Azar’s chest, ending his brave life.
