House Garshasp of Sakitan, also known as House Garshasp of Nemrooz, was one of the most powerful noble houses in the Southern Iranian plateau. Their seat is located in the city/region of Zabul. The sigil of House Garshasp might have been a dragon, perhaps a reference to the legendary battle of Garshasp and the titan, Gandarw. According to legend they possess the famous Gorz-e gāvsār/sar (ox-headed club/mace).
The progenies of Garshasp were among the oldest and proudest of the Great Houses of Iran. They often produced heroes unparalleled in strength in their age, yet never took the crown of ShahanShah of Eran (Iranian People), even though Rostam, the most renowned hero of Iranian legendary history, was offered to take the reign of kingship. The progenies of Garshasp were the founder and the lords of Sakistan.
Etymology: The name. Av. Kərəsāspa probably means “he with meager horses” (Iranica/Karsāsp)
