OLD WOMEN IN IRANIAN Folklore | پیرزنان در باورهای افسانه ای مردم ایران

In the beliefs of the Iranians, there are many creatures in the form of old women who are often evil and frightening. In many regions, there is a belief in a creature similar to "Āl."

In the beliefs of the people of Tabriz (northwest of Iran), this creature is called "Hāli Naneh". She is a tall woman who wears a long necklace and harasses pregnant women. One day, Hāli Naneh was hanging from the ceiling of a tandir (oven) and was tormenting a pregnant woman. The woman grabbed her necklace, and a stone from Hāli Naneh’s necklace broke off. Hāli Naneh fell into the tandoor pit, and from that day onward, no one has seen her again. In Mahabad, West Azerbaijan, this creature is known as "Shahveh." To protect the mother after childbirth, they place a light, an open knife, and two sickles above her bed at night. In the beliefs of the people of Jahrom, Fars Province, there is also a creature called "Khaleh Ghoolak," who is known to kidnap infants.

In many regions, creatures in the form of old women also appear to frighten and abduct mischievous children. One such creature is "Nane Har Dom," believed in by the people of Tehran. This ugly and terrifying old woman’s body is covered with the tails of various animals. If a child disobeys their mother, "Nane Har Dom" comes after them and asks which animal’s tail they want to be strangled with. Another old woman in the beliefs of the people of Fasa, Fars Province, is called "Nane Andar Ghorabā" (Mother of Exile). She is often imagined as an old woman with white hair, dressed in traditional Fasa women’s clothing. If children harassed adults, she would abduct them and take them to places far from home. Belief in this creature is widespread in Fars, but it is particularly well-known among the people of Fasa. A similar creature exists in the beliefs of the people of Shadegan, Khuzestan Province(southwest of Iran), known as "Omme Khazra va-Allīf" (Mother of Greenery). She is an old woman with long hair resembling palm branches that cover her body. "Omme Khazra va-Allīf" kidnaps children in palm groves. The people of Kabuderahang, Hamadan Province(west of Iran), also believe in a frightening creature called "Pīrezan Mārku," whose job is to scare children.

However, not all old women in Iranian folklore are evil. One of the benevolent and angelic figures in the beliefs of the people of Lorestan(west of Iran) is "Kheyr Bar Kar." This angel visits herds and homes at night as a bird or an old woman and distributes sustenance among the people. Sometimes, people leave the lid of a cooking pot open so that "Kheyr Bar Kar" can eat from it, bringing them more blessings and sustenance.

In previous posts, old women such as Om al-Masahi, Dada Kalako, Naneh Jon Jon, Daranj, Shuteh Zenayi, Barakh Barakh, Sakineh, Al Arvadi, Al Khato, Al Zangi, and others have been mentioned.

در باورهای مردم ایران، موجودات بسیاری در قالب پیران وجود دارند که اغلب بدذات و ترسناکند. در بسیاری از مناطق، به موجودی شبیه به آل(به پست‌های قبل مراجعه شود) باور دارند.

در باور مردمان تبریز، این موجود «هالی ننه» نام دارد. او زنی بلند قامت است و گردنبندی بلند هم به گردن می اندازد. هالی ننه، زنان باردار را مورد آزار و اذیت قرار میدهد. روزی هالی ننه از سقف تندیر(تنور) آویزان بوده و زن بارداری را آزار میداده، زن به گردن او چنگ میزند و سنگی از گردنبند هالی ننه جدا میکند. هالی ننه داخل گودال تندیر می افتد و از آن روز به بعد دیگر کسی هالی ننه را ندیده است. در شهرستان مهاباد آذربایجان غربی به این موجود، «شه وه» می‌گویند. برای محافظت از زن زائو، شب‌ها چراغ، چاقوی بازشده و دو داس داخل اتاق بالای سر زن می گذارند. در باور مردمان جهرم استان فارس نیز، موجودی به نام «خاله غولک» وجود دارد که نوزادان را میدزدد.

در مناطق بسیاری نیز موجوداتی به شکل پیرزن برای ترساندن و بردن کودکان بازیگوش ظاهر می‌شوند. از جمله این پیرزنان به موجودی به نام «ننه هر دُم» می‌توان اشاره کرد که در باور مردمان تهران وجود دارد. بدن این پیرزن زشت و ترسناک با دُم حیوانات مختلف پُر شده است. اگر کودکی به حرف مادرش گوش نکند، «ننه هر دُم» به سراغ او می‌آید و از کودک می‌پرسد که او را با دُمِ کدام حیوان خفه کند. پیرزن دیگری در باور مردمان فسای استان فارس به نام «ننه اندرغربا»(ننه‌ی در غربت) وجود دارد. او اغلب به شکل یک پیرزن سفید مو و با لباس‌های سنتی زنان فسا تصور می‌شود. اگر بچه‌ها بزرگترها را اذیت می‌کردند، او آن‌ها را می‌دزدید و به مکان‌های دور از خانه می‌برد. باور به این موجود در بیشتر مناطق فارس وجود دارد، اما در میان مردم فسا، بیشتر از سایرین شنیده شده است. موجودی شبیه به آن نیز در باور مردمان شهرستان شادگان استان خوزستان وجود دارد که «ام خضره و اللیف»(دارای شاخ و برگ) نامیده می‌شود. او پیرزنی است با موهایی بلند همچون شاخه‌های نخل که بدنش را پوشانده است. «ام خضره و اللیف» بچه‌ها را در نخلستان می‌دزدد. مردمان روستای کبودرآهنگ استان همدان نیز به موجودی ترسناک به نام «پیرزن مارکو» باور دارند که وظیفه‌اش ترساندن کودکان است.

البته تمام پیرزنان در باورهای ایرانی پلید نیستند. از موجودات فرشته‌صفت و نیک در باور مردمان لرستان می‌توان به «خیربرکر» اشاره کرد. این فرشته، شب‌هنگام به شکل پرنده یا پیرزنی سراغ گله‌ها و خانه‌ها می‌آید و رزق و روزی را بین مردم تقسیم می‌کند. گاهی مردم در دیگ غذا را باز می‌گذارند تا «خیربرکر» از آن بخورد و رزق و روزی بیشتری نصیب آنان کند.
