خزبران پهلوانی از لشکر توران در جنگ ایران و توران در زمان پادشاهی نوذر بود که به قصد گرفتن سیستان به همراه شماساس و سی هزار شمشیرزن به طرف سیستان آمد. خزبران و شماساس که به زابلستان رسیدند در شهر تنها مهراب کابلی بود و زال برای سوگواری درگذشت پدرش، سام، به گورابد/گوراب رفته بود. مهراب چون آگاه شد فرستادهای پیش شماساس فرستاد و گفت: «من خود از نژاد ضحاکم و از مرگ سام دلم شادمان شد. خودم از سر اجبار دخترم را به عقد زال درآوردم و گر نمیکردم جان و مالی برایم نمیماند. اکنون هم فرصتی میخواهم تا نزد افراسیاب فرستادهای بفرستم و وی را از نهان خود آگاه کنم تا هر آنچه او گوید آن کنم.» اینها به شماساس نوشت و از آنطرف فرستادهای به زال فرستاد تا آنچه رفته بود با او بگوید و بخواهد که هر چه سریعتر به زابلستان باز گردد. پس زال برگشت و شبانه به نزدیکی لشکر دشمن رفت و سه تیر انداخت و چون روز شد آنان فهمیدند که زال برگشته. شماساس که اینها دید به خزبران گفت: «اگر همان روز به آنان حمله میکردیم نه مهرابی مانده بود و نه الان چنین میشد.» خزبران چنین گفت که: «زال تنها یک نفر است و لشکر ما بسیار.» سپس جنگی میان لشکر خزبران و زال در گرفت و خزبران با گرز آهنی و سپر به طرف زال رفت و بر زرهش گرزی زد و خفتان زال را شکافت. زال عقب رفت و لباس رزمی نو پوشید و بازگشت با گرز سام چنان ضربهای بر سر خزبران زد که به زمین افتاد و زمین از خون قرمز شد.
Khazabran was a Turanian champion in Iran and Turan's war during Nowzar's era. Seeking to capture Sistan, he invaded there alongside Shamasas and thirty thousand swordsmen. When they arrived at Zabulistan, only Mehrab was in the town, and Zaal had left for Gurab to mourn Saam(his father). Finding out about their attack, Mehrab sent a messenger to Shamasas and said that I am of Zah'haak's blood myself. I enjoyed Saam's death in my heart. I let my daughter marry Zaal out of my own fear for my life and everything I have. Give me some time, so that I can send a messenger to Afrasiab and tell him about everything. Then, I'll do as he orders me to. He wrote this message to Shamasas, but on the other hand, he sent another messenger to Zaal and asked him to come back to Zabulistan with all possible haste. So Zaal came back, and when the midnight arrived, he shot three arrows near their camp. In the morning, they found out that Zaal was back. Seeing this, Shamasas told Khazabran If we had attacked earlier, this wouldn't had happened, and Mehrab wouldn't be alive now. Our army is large in numbers, and Zaal is but one man Khazabran replied. A war launched between Khazabran's troops and Zaal. Khazabran attacked Zaal with his club and shield in hand, and tore up Zaal's kaftan by the strike of his club Zaal moved back and wore his armor. He then attacked Khazabran and beat Saam's club on Khazabran's head; so hard that he fell on the ground, and the soil under him turned red with his blood.
