سرو شاه یمن بود که سه دختزش به همسری سه پسر فریدون درآمدند.
فریدون زمانی که پسرانش به سن ازدواج رسیدند، به جندل راهبر دستور داد تا سرتاسر جهان را بگردد و سه خواهر برازندهی سه فرزندش بیابد. جندل پس از جستجو، سرو شاه یمن را یافت و دخترانش را از او خواستگاری کرد.
سرو نخست برآن بود تا مخالفت کند اما صلاح دید که چنین نکند. پس در جواب خواست تا فرزندان فریدون خود به یمن آیند. پسران فریدون که به یمن رسیدند، سرو دخترانش را به پیش آنان آورد و روبروی آنان نشاند؛ دخترانی که از لحاظ ظاهر هیچ تفاوتی با یکدیگر نداشتند. سرو از آنها خواست تا حدس بزنند که کدام بزرگتر و کدام کوچکتر است.
پسران فریدون چون پیشتر با راهنمایی پدرشان از این آزمون سرو آگاهی داشتند ترتیب دختران را درست تشخیص دادند همراه با دختران سرو از یمن به سوی ایران آمدند. سرو که نمیتوانست از مهر دخترانش دل بکند، یک شب که پسران فریدون در مسیر اطراق کردهبودند، با کمک جادو سرمایی بر آنها آورد اما فرزندان فرهمند توانستند از پس آن جادو بربیایند و به مسیر خود ادامه دهند. سرو شاه یمن با دیدن این اتفاق دست از پافشاری برداشت و در ادامه یکی از یاران همیشگی ایران شد.

Sarv was the King of Yemen whose three daughters married the three sons of Fereydoun.
When the sons of Fereydoun reached the age of marriage, he instructed his guide, Jandal, to search the entire world and find three sisters worthy of his three sons. After a long search, Jandal found Sarv, the King of Yemen, and asked for his daughters' hands in marriage.
At first, Sarv intended to refuse but decided it would be wiser not to. In his reply, he requested that Fereydoun's sons come to Yemen themselves. When the sons arrived in Yemen, Sarv brought his daughters before them. The three princesses were identical in appearance, and Sarv challenged the sons to guess which was the eldest and which was the youngest. Because the sons had been forewarned of this test by their father, they correctly identified the order of the daughters.
The sons then began their journey back to Iran with the daughters of Sarv. Unable to bear the separation from his daughters, Sarv used sorcery one night while the convoy was camped, bringing a bitter frost down upon them. However, the divinely-favored sons were able to overcome the magic and continue on their way. Seeing this, Sarv, the King of Yemen, gave up his efforts and thereafter became a lasting ally of Iran.
