گرگسار، در جنگ نخست میان گشتاسپ با ارجاسپ، زمانی که ارجاسپ تصمیم گرفت به سوی ایران لشکرکشی کند، سپهبدی لشکر توران و چین را عهدهدار شد.
وقتی دو لشکر رودررو شدند ارجاسپ یک دست لشکر را به بیدرفش و دست دیگر را با صد هزار سوار گزین به گرگسار داد.
پس از جنگ نخست که با فرار ارجاسپ همراه بود، زمانی که اسفندیار به فرمان گشتاسپ در بند شد، ارجاسپ بار دیگر به ایران هجوم آورد اما زمانی که اسفندیار برای کمک به ایران از بند رها شد، ترجیح داد عقبنشینی کند. در همین حال، گرگسار به نزد او رفت و به او انگیزه داد و گفت میتواند حریف اسفندیار شود. به همین خاطر ارجاسپ بار دیگر لشکر کشید و با اسفندیار جنگید. این جنگ نیز با شکست ارجاسپ همراه بود. وقتی پادشاه توران غلبهی ایرانیان بر لشکرش را دید به گرگسار گله کرد که چرا ساکت نشسته است. به همین سبب گرگسار به سوی لشکر ایران شتافت و با اسفندیار روبرو شد. اسفندیار کمند انداخت و او را اسیر گرفت و فرمان داد تا خونش را نریزند.
پس از این ارجاسپ دوباره به توران گریخت اما هنوز خواهران اسفندیار در اسارت بودند به همین دلیل اسفندیار پس از پرسوجو از گرگسار پای در مسیر هفت خوان نهاد تا به روییندژ رسیده و خواهرانش را آزاد کند و انتقام خون کشته شدگان را بگیرد. در این مسیر اسفندیار گرگسار را با خود همراه کرد.
گرگسار از خوان نخست تا ششم همراه اسفندیار است و همواره از پیروز شدن رویینتن خشمگین میشود. گرگسار در خوان ششم به اسفندیار میگوید که بیابلنی در پیش دارند اما وقتی اسفندیار با آب دریا روبرو میشود او را بازخواست میکند، سپس گرگسار اذعان به ناامیدی از اسفندیار میکند. رویینتن وعدههایش را به او یادآور میشود و گرگسار دوباره با اسفندیار همراه میشود. پس از گذشتن از آب اسفندیار گرگسار را فرامیخواند و میگوید اگر انتقام خون کشته شدگان را از تک تک تورانیان بگیرد گرگسار شادمان میشود یا ناراحت. گرگسار از اسفندیار گله میکند و به او دشنام میدهد و در آخر به دست رویینتن کشته میشود.

Gorgsaar, during the first war between Goshtasp and Arjaasp, took command of the armies of Turan and China when Arjaasp decided to march toward Iran. When the two armies faced each other, Arjaasp gave one wing of his forces to Biderafsh and the other, comprising a hundred thousand horsemen, to Gorgsaar.
Following the first battle, which ended with Arjaasp's retreat, he returned once more to attack Iran while Esfandiyar was held captive under Goshtasp’s command. Yet, when Esfandiyar was freed to aid Iran, Arjaasp chose to withdraw. In that moment, Gorgsaar approached Arjaasp, inspiring him with motivation and declaring that he could be a match for Esfandiyar. With this encouragement, Arjaasp rallied his forces again and fought against Esfandiyar, but once more faced defeat. When the king of Turan witnessed the Iranians' victory over his army, he reprimanded Gorgsaar for his silence. Thus, Gorgsaar rushed to the Iranian army and confronted Esfandiyar, who ensnared him with a lasso and commanded his blood be spared.
After this, Arjaasp fled back to Turan, yet Esfandiyar’s sisters remained imprisoned. Therefore, Esfandiyar, after inquiring from Gorgsaar, embarked on the path of the Seven Labors to reach the Rouein Fort to free his sisters and take revenge for the fallen. On this journey, Esfandiyar brought Gorgsaar along with him.
Gorgsaar accompanied Esfandiyar from the first to the sixth labor and was constantly angered by the triumphs of the immortal hero. In the sixth labor, Gorgsaar warned Esfandiyar of the uncharted waters ahead, but when Esfandiyar confronted the ocean, he reproached him. Gorgsaar then confessed his despair regarding Esfandiyar. The immortal one reminded him of his promises, and Gorgsaar agreed to accompany Esfandiyar once again. After crossing the water, Esfandiyar summoned Gorgsaar, questioning whether avenging the blood of the slain would bring him joy or sorrow. Gorgsaar lamented to Esfandiyar and hurled insults at him, and ultimately, he fell by the hand of the immortal one.
