پشوتن برادر اسفندیار بود.
او در تمام مدت حضورش در شاهنامه همراه و راهنمای اسفندیار است.
او در هفت‌خوان اسفندیار دستیار او بود و در خوان آخر، تسخیر رویین‌دژ، اسفندیار سپاهش را در بیرون دژ به پشوتن می‌سپارد و در آخر به همراه برادرش در برابر ارجاسپ جنگید.
پشوتن در داستان رستم و اسفندیار همواره کنار اسفندیار است و در آخر بر تن بی‌جانش شیون کرد.
او پس از مرگ اسفندیار و در زمان پادشاهی بهمن نقش مشاور و راهنمای بهمن را برعهده داشت.

Peshotan was the brother of Esfandiyar. Throughout his time in the epic Shahnameh, he stood as a steadfast companion and guide for Esfandiyar. In the seven trials of Esfandiyar, he served as his faithful assistant, and in the final trial, the conquest of Rouein Fort, Esfandiyar entrusted his army to Peshotan outside the fortress before facing the great Arjaasp at his side.

In the tale of Rostam and Esfandiyar, Peshotan was ever-present, mourning deeply over the lifeless body of Esfandiyar in his final moments. After Esfandiyar’s demise, during the reign of Bahman, Peshotan assumed the role of advisor and guide to the king, shaping the destiny of the realm with his wisdom.
