آبتین، پدر فریدون، از نسل تهمورث بود که در دوران حکومت ظالمانه ضحاک جان خود را از دست داد. هنگامی که ضحاک به چهل سال پایانی عمر خود رسید، شبی در خواب رؤیایی هراس‌انگیز دید؛ مردی با گرز گاوسر، همراه با دو برادر خویش، نزد او آمدند و ضحاک را به هلاکت رساندند.
وحشت‌زده از این رؤیا، ضحاک خوابگزاران را فراخواند و تعبیر آن را جویا شد. آنان به او گفتند که این مرد هنوز زاده نشده است. ضحاک، بیمناک از آینده، فرمان داد که مأمورانش خانه‌ها را جست‌وجو کنند و هر نوزادی را که بیابند، به قتل برسانند؛ همچنین، هرکس از اجرای این دستور سرپیچی کند، محکوم به مرگ خواهد بود.
آبتین، که در جریان این سرکوب‌ها قرار گرفت، گریخت؛ اما تلاش‌های او بی‌نتیجه ماند و سرانجام، مأموران ضحاک او را یافتند و به قتل رساندند. در این میان، فرانک، همسر آبتین، برای نجات نوزادش فریدون، از چنگال حکومت استبدادی ضحاک گریخت و جان فرزند خود را حفظ کرد.
Abtin, the father of Fereydoun, was a descendant of Tahmoures. He perished during the oppressive reign of Zah’haak. When Zah’haak entered the last forty years of his rule, he had a terrifying dream—he saw a young man wielding a bull-headed mace, accompanied by two brothers, who came and ultimately led to his downfall.
Frightened by this vision, Zah’haak summoned his dream interpreters to unravel its meaning. They informed him that the young man in the dream had not yet been born. Alarmed at the prophecy, Zah’haak ordered his soldiers to scour the kingdom, executing any newborns they found. Anyone who defied this command would also face death.
Abtin, aware of the brutal decree, fled to protect himself. However, his efforts proved futile—Zah’haak’s men eventually discovered him and took his life. Amid this terror, his wife, Faranak, determined to save their infant son, Fereydoun, escaped the clutches of Zah’haak’s regime, ensuring the child’s survival.
