کاوه، آهنگری بود که شانزده پسرش به دست ماموران ضحاک کشته شدند و زمانی که نوبت به هفدهمین پسر رسید به خشم آمد و بی هیچ ترسی وارد کاخ ضحاک شد.
در همان زمان، ضحاک فرمان داده بود که محضری نوشته شود تا همگان به نیک‌رفتاری او گواهی دهند. کاوه، که دیگر تاب ظلم و استبداد پادشاه را نداشت، فریاد دادخواهی سر داد و آشوب به پا کرد. سخنان و ایستادگی او چنان رعب و وحشتی در دل ضحاک انداخت که تا آن زمان هرگز سابقه نداشت.
ضحاک، که دید نمی‌تواند بر کاوه چیره شود، ناچار فرزندش را به او بازگرداند و از او خواست که در تأیید عدالت‌پیشگی شاه، محضر را امضا کند. اما کاوه، که زیر بار چنین فریبی نمی‌رفت، محضر را پاره کرد و زیر پای خود له کرد. سپس، به بازارگاه آمد، پیشبند چرمی‌اش را بر نیزه بست و مردم را به گرد خود فرا خواند. سپس با همان افراد به نزد فریدون شتافت.
در نتیجه این اتحاد فریدون توانست بر ضحاک پیروز شود و به فرمانروایی هزار ساله او پایان دهد.
Kaave was a blacksmith whose sixteen sons had been slain by Zah’haak’s men. When the time came for his seventeenth son to be taken, Kaave was overcome with rage and, without fear, stormed into Zah’haak’s palace.
At that time, Zah’haak had ordered a decree to be written, compelling the kingdom’s subjects to affirm his benevolence. Kaave, who could no longer endure the tyrant’s cruelty, raised his voice in protest, causing an uproar. His defiance and fearless words struck a terror in Zah’haak’s heart unlike anything he had ever experienced.
Seeing that he could not overpower Kaave, Zah’haak was forced to release his son. He then urged Kaave to sign the decree, validating the king’s supposed righteousness. But Kaave, unwilling to participate in this deception, tore the document to shreds and crushed it beneath his feet. He then strode into the marketplace, fastened his leather apron to a spear, and rallied the people. With them at his side, he set out to find Fereydoun.
As a result of this uprising, Fereydoun amassed an army, launched an assault on Zah’haak’s palace, and ultimately put an end to the thousand-year reign of oppression.
