گُردآفرید دختر دژدار دژ سپید، گَژْدَهَم بود. وقتی هُجیر به دست سهراب اسیر شد در دژ سپید این خبر پیچید و گردآفرید که در جنگاوری نامدار بود لباس رزم پوشید و گیسوانش را زیر کلاهخود پنهان کرد و به مصاف سهراب رفت. سهراب که از دور آمدن گردآفرید را دید به آوردگاه رفت. گردآفرید که نزدیک شد به سمت سهراب تیر انداخت و سهراب از این اتفاق ننگش آمد و سپر بر سر گرفت و به طرفش رفت و هر دو با نیزه به جنگ پرداختند که سهراب ناگهان گردآفرید را از اسب بلند کرد. گردآفرید در یک آن تیغ تیز کشید و نیزهی سهراب را به دو نیم کرد و بر اسب نشست و عقبنشینی کرد. سهراب به دنبال او رفت و کلاهخود وی را برداشت و فهمید که هماوردش دختر است. گردآفرید زیباییای داشت که سهراب را مبهوت کرده بود. گردآفرید که خود را اسیر سهراب یافت چارهای ساخت و گفت اگر سپاهیانت بفهمند که در جنگت با من چنین گرد و خاکی بلند شده در سپاهت گفت و گو بلند میشود و بهتر است این را از آنان نهان نگه داریم و در ادامه گفت اگر سهراب به دژ سپید آید همه به فرمان اویند. سهراب «ز گفتار او مبتلا شد دلش» و به خواستهی گردآفرید سر داد و با او به دژ سپید رفت. گردآفرید که به دژ رسید داخل شد و سریع در را بستند و اینگونه سهراب در بیرون دژ ماند. گردآفرید چندی برآسود و پس از آن به بالای دژ رفت و به سهراب خندید و گفت «چنین بود و روزی نبودت ز من/بدین درد غمگین نکن خویشتن» گردآفرید در ادامه گفت جنگاوری چون سهراب در توران ندیده ولیکن اگر خبر به رستم دستان برسد که او به خاک ایران یورش برده سر به تنش باقی نمیگذارد. سهراب که دید از گردآفرید رَکَب خورده از این اتفاق ننگش آمد و برگشت تا شبانه با سپاه به دژ سپید آید. حضور گردآفرید در شاهنامه بسیار کوتاه است و در همین داستان خلاصه میشود ولی یکی از مشهورترین بانوان شاهنامه است.
GordAfarid is the daughter of Gazhdaham(the keeper of The White Fort). When Hojir was captured by Sohrab, everyone in the fort heard about it. GordAfarid who was a good warrior, wore armor and hid her hair under her helmet. She went to fight Sohrab. Seeing her arrival, Sohrab left for the battlefield. When she got close, she shot an arrow to Sohrab. Finding this offensive, Sohrab held his shield above his head and charged at GordAfarid. They were fighting with spears, then Sohrab picked her up with his spear. But GordAfarid broke his spear in an instance. She sat on her horse and retreated. Chasing after her, Sohrab managed to take her helmet off. He found out that his rival was a lady. She was so beautiful that her beauty enchanted Sohrab. Finding herself in Sohrab's hand, she found a solution. She told him that if your troops see how much time it has taken you to defeat me, if they see the dust in the skies, they will know that something is off about you. You shouldn't let them know. If you come to The White Fort with me, you will be heard. Enchanted by her His heart fell for his words. So he did as GordAfarid said and left for the fort. When they got close to the fort, GordAfarid entered the gates, but before Sohrab can enter, they closed the gates. GordAfarid rested for a few moments, then she stood on the walls of the fort and laughed at Sohrab. Nothing from me, you could get/ don't you be sad and upset said GordAfarid. Then she continued and said that although she had not seen no warrior like Sohrab, if Rostam found out that he had marched at Iran, he would kill him. Betrayed by GordAfarid, Sohrab went back to his army. He wanted to comeback at nighttime. Although she isn't in the story for a long time, GordAfarid is one of the well-known women in The Book Of Kings.
