گرشاسپ پسر زَوْ بود که پس از آن به تخت پادشاهی نشست. نباید این گرشاسپ را با گرشاسپ پهلوان که نیای رستم است اشتباه گرفت. در تصحیح خالقی مطلق پادشاهی گرشاسپ الحاقی شناخته شده و این ابیات از آن حذف گردیده. از گرشاسپ در ابیاتی که آمده سخن زیادی به میان نرفته. زمان پادشاهی این شخصیت نقطهی ورود رستم جوان به عرصهی جنگاوریست و در همین زمان است که رستم پی اسبی میرود تا درخورش باشد و رخش را در میان گروهی از اسبان مییابد و رام خود میکند.
Garshasp was Zaw's son. After his father died, Garshasp sat on the throne. He is not to be mistaken with Garshasp The Champion who was Rostam's grandfather. In Jalal Khaleghi Motlagh's edition of The Book Of Kings, Garshasp's kingship is considered to be adjunct, therefore their verses were removed. The verses that mention Garshasp, don't say much about him. During his reign, young Rostam entered the stage of warfare and championship. In this time, Rostam looks for a suitable horse for himself. Then he found Raksh among a herd of horses and tamed him. Verse: In his father's place, he sat on the throne And he was crowned, with the kingly crown
