منوچهر از دختر ماهآفرید به دنیا آمد و تا سن بلوغ علوم و فنون را از فریدون آموخت. وقتی به سن مناسب رسید، فریدون تمام پهلوانان کشور را جمع کرد و لشکری با منوچهر همراه ساخت. سلم و تور چه از این آگاه شدند در پی چاره گشتند و بر آن شدند تا از در پوزش سوی فریدون افرادی بفرستند. فریدون در جواب گفت: «ما دیگه نمیتونیم مثل گذشته باشیم. بگید ببینم! تن بیسر ایرج کجاست؟ بدونید که منوچهر به کینخواهی ایرج پیشتون میآد. اون درختی که قطع کردید شاخهای داد که من بزرگش کردم و الآن در پی انتقامه.» فرستادهی سلم و تور که مبهوت جلال و جبروت کاخ فریدون شده بود پیغام را گرفت و پیش سلم و تور رفت و از عظمت سپاه منوچهر گفت. تور به سلم گفت اکنون جای درنگ نیست؛ باید جنگید. سلم و تور لشکر آراستند. فریدون به منوچهر فرمان داد تا لشکر بکشد. هر گوشه از لشکر را به پهلوانی سپرد و خود با سرو، شاه یمن، در قلب سپاه جای گرفت. شب قبل از شروع جنگ ندایی در لشکر ایران پیچید که: «جنگ ما جنگ بر ضد جنگ است! ما از بهر خونخواهی اینجاییم و هر کس در این جنگ کشته بشه از گناه پاکه. آماده و ساختهی جنگ باشید و به یاری جهانآفرین امیدوار.» سپیدهدمان از سپاه ایران جنبشی برخاست. جنگی به راه افتاد و دشت دریای خون شد. شب شد و پیروزی با منوچهر بود. روز بعد سلم و تور به صحبت نشستند و قرار بر شبیخون نهادند. گارآگهان ایران از این امر آگاه شدند و خبر پیش منوچهر بردند. پس شبانه که تور به سمت اردوگاه ایران لشکر کشیده منوچهر با لشکری آماده سرش هوار شد و تور را در هنگام فرار با نیزه زخمی کرد و سپس سر از تنش جدا کرد. منوچهر بعد از این به فریدون فتحنامه نوشت و سر تور را برای فریدون فرستاد. سلم وقتی دید هوا پس است به دژ آلانان گریخته بود ولی قارن یکی از پهلوانان ایرانی که فرزند کاوهی آهنگر بود با جا زدن خودش به عنوان فرستادهی تور وارد دژ شد و به کمک دیگر پهلوانان انجا را تسخیر کرد. سپس منوچهر به مقابله با کاکوی، نبیرهی ضحاک، -که پشت سلم درآمده بود- پرداخت و وی را ناکار کرد. سلم چون برگشتن کار خود دید خواست تا پا به فرار بگذارد که منوچهر با سپاهش لب ساحل جلوی او را گرفتند. منوچهر از اسب پیاده شد و با شمشیر کار سلم را یکسره کرد. انتقام خون ایرج که گرفته شد، فریدون جان تسلیم کرد و منوچهر به تخت پادشاهی نشست.
Manouchehr was MaahAfarid's grand son, and MaahRokh's son. Till the age of maturity, he learned his knowledge and skills from Fereydoun. When he reached the appropriate age, Fereydoun gathered an army of champions to accompany Manouchehr. When Salm and Tur found out about it, they looked for a way to save themselves; so they sent a messenger to Fereydoun to ask for forgiveness. In their answer, Fereydoun said: The past is gone, we are not the same Tell us where lies, Iraj's headless frame Manouchehr comes, to avenge his death The tree you cut, grew to kill your breath The messenger, who was amazed by palace's magnificence, took Fereydoun's message and left for Salm and Tur. He told them of Manouchehr's army's greatness. Salm told Tur that there is no time to waste, we should prepare to fight; so they gathered an army. Fereydoun ordered Manouchehr to move his army. He gave each side of the army to a champion. And he stayed in the heart of the army, with Sarv, the king of Yemen. The night before the battle, everyone were talking about how this battle is a fight against the war! They knew that they were there to avenge a blood. They believed that anyone who dies in this battle, is a martyr, cleansed of any sin. So they said, be ready for the battle, and be hopeful for God's aid. Iran's army charged at dawn. The battle had started, and meadows were red with blood. At night, victory was Manouchehr's. The next day, Salm and Tur talked about how to defeat Manouchehr; so they decided to strike them at night. Iranian informers found out about this plan and they warned Manouchehr. Therefore, when Tur was moving towards them at night, they attacked him and caught him off guard. Manouchehr wounded Tur with a spear. Then he cut his head off and sent it to Fereydoun, announcing his victory. When Salm saw that things had gone wrong, he fled to Alanan Fort. But, an Iranian Champion named Qaren, who was Kaveh's son, made his way into the fort, pretending to be Tur's messenger. He captured the fort alongside other champions. In the meantime, Manouchehr was confronting Kaakuy, who was Zah'haak's great grandchild. He stood by Salm's side. Manouchehr finished him off as well. Salm tried to run away, but Manouchehr with his army stopped him by the shore. Manouchehr came down off his horse and killed Salm with his sword. When Iraj's blood was avenged, Fereydoun passed away, and Manouchehr sat on the throne as the king.
