ارجاسپ پادشاه توران و چین در زمان پادشاهی گشتاسپ بر ایرانزمین بود.
زمانی که زرتشت ظهور کرد گشتاسپ به دین او درآمد و از باج دادن به ارجاسپ سر باز زد. همین تصمیم باعث در گرفتن جنگ میان ایران و توران شد که در نتیجهی آن بزرگانی همچون زریر برادر گشتاسپ و گرامی پسر جاماسپ و بسیاری دیگر شد اما در آخر با دلاوریهای اسفندیار سپاه توران عقب نشست.
پس از این گشتاسپ با بدگویی گُرزَم نسب به اسفندیار بدبین شد و او را در دژ گنبدان دستگیر کرد. ارجاسپ با آگاهشدن از این اتفاق به بلخ یورش برد و لهراسپ را کشت و گشتاسپ به مقابله با آن پرداخت اما متحمل شکست سختی شد و به کوهی عقبنشینی کرد و بهدست سواه توران محاصره شد. سپس جاماسپ به نزد اسفندیار رفت و او را به نزد گشتاسپ آورد و دوباره ارجاسپ عقب نشست اما خواهران اسفندیار را به اسارت برد.
دست آخر، گشتاسپ اسفندیار را مامور کرد که به روییندژ، کاخ ارجاسپ، برود و همای و بهآفرید را نجات دهد. به همین منظور اسفندیار از هفت خوان گذشت و آنها را آزاد کرد و ارجاسپ را کشت

When Zoroaster emerged, Goshtasp embraced his faith, refusing to pay tribute to Arjaasp. This fateful decision ignited a fierce war between Iran and Turan, resulting in the valorous casualties of great figures like Zarir, the brother of Goshtasp, and the noble son of Jamaasp, alongside many others. Yet, in the end, the bravery of Esfandiyar forced the Turanian army to retreat.
Subsequently, Goshtasp, influenced by the slander of Gorzam regarding Esfandiyar, grew suspicious and captured him in Gonbadaan Fort. Upon learning of this turn of events, Arjaasp launched an assault on Balkh, slaying Lohrasp. Goshtasp confronted this threat but suffered a devastating defeat and retreated to the mountains, only to find himself besieged by the forces of Sawah from Turan.
In this dire time, Jamaasp sought out Esfandiyar and brought him before Goshtasp, leading to Arjaasp's retreat once more, though he took the sisters of Esfandiyar captive. Ultimately, Goshtasp entrusted Esfandiyar with a crucial mission: to venture to Rooin-Daj, the palace of Arjaasp, and rescue Homay and Behafarid. With unwavering determination, Esfandiyar traversed the seven trials, liberated them, and vanquished Arjaasp.
